Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

This is the first novel from the writer of Gone Girl. This is a bit more of a traditional thriller/whodunnit kind of story. A journalist goes back to her home town where some nasty murders have happened. It seems that Flynn likes to write about mentally ill women and women with poor relationships with their parents, judging by the two novels that I have read by her.

I would say that if you liked one then you would like the other, it is the same style of easy to read writing, the story whizzes along, and you are kept guessing until the end. Flynn must have seen some pretty grim stuff in her previous career as a police reporter because she creates some messed up characters.
